WORKSHOP | In Athens, organised by the Onassis Cultural Centre
Athens (GR) | 2015
Onassis Cultural Center in Athens hosted the 3rd edition of TRANSITIONS festival in 2015. Following on from the 'Balkans' in the first year and 'Latin America' in the 2nd edition, in 2015 it was the turn of the radical, independent Central European scene to ‘occupy’ the OCC. On her research trips to Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia – the four Central European nations that came together in 1991 to form the Visegrad Group –, the festival's artistic director, Katia Arfara was impressed by the fact how historical narratives lie at the heart of the independent Central European scene. Alongside them, she could find issues like nationalism, freedom of expression, human rights, unemployment, racism, the demythification of national symbols, the weakening of taboos, guilt and victimisation.
The 3d Transitions festival presented Central Europe’s new generation of artists balance between the classic texts of their literary traditions and mixed, experimental forms which inhabit the grey zone between film, theatrical installation, performance, dance and documentary theatre – among others, the Day of Fury , directed by Árpád Schilling.
WORKSHOP
"Through analyzing Krétakör Foundation's history and my career as a director I would introduce the intersections of aesthetics and politics.
Between 1995 and 2015 quite a few things happened in Hungary and around the world in general. During this time I actively participated in theater productions, theatrical-pedagogical programs, forum-theatre events, and direct political events.
On the first day, I would share my experiences in the theatre of arts, while on the second day I would talk about my experiences with applied theatre, highlighting successes and those mistakes I happened to make. "
