Liliom

THEATRE | A production of Krétakör Theatre

Thália Theatre — Old Studio
Budapest (HU) | 2001

The Krétakör Theatre was looking to connect to the spirit and traditions of the place when, in the Thália Régi Stúdió, which stands on the former site of the Arizona nightclub on the Budapest Broadway, it presented a blossom sprung from Budapest tarmac: Molnár Ferenc’s Liliom (‘Lily’). The style of the performance alludes to the cabaret of the 20s and 30s, at once calling lovers of a bygone era’s Budapest to nostalgia, and opening up a now-classic story’s merciless depths.
